Off-Grid Nature to curb city Pollution?

Right idea? or just crazy? Do you think it will last?

Looking at the photo?  Remind you of the latest Fantasy Video?  But no, this is a real apartment complex in Italy.  Built for the purpose of helping its inhabitants fight against noise and air pollution by growing trees within the actual framework of the complex.

Makes me grateful for the benefits of living off grid and in harmony with nature.   First we kill off or remove all the benefits of nature from our cities and then we discover “oops” we need those very same benefits in order to survive.

If you have to live in the city, perhaps this is the type of apartment complex you would want to look for.  Currently being developed in Italy.  They still have to use metal tree sculptures in order to convey the look and feel of a treehouse.

“There are 63 residential units in the building and they are all different and fitted with wide terraces of irregular shapes that surround the trees. The last floor is covered with private green roofs.”–LucianoPia Website

Designed by Luciano Pia,Located in Turin, Italy, 25 Verde brings plants up off the ground in an attempt to evade Turin’s homogeneous urban scene and integrate life into the facade of the residential building.

There are 150 trees scattered along the outside of the residential building, and they absorb nearly 200,000 liters of carbon dioxide an hour. The plants’ full leaves in the spring and summer months mean that they help to block out the harsh sun. When they’re leafless in the winter, however, they bring in much-needed light to warm up the building.—alimeamar
